VARIG BRASIL MD-11

Founded on 7 May 1927 by German immigrant Otto Ernst Meyer, Varig developed initially in the south of Brasil. The first aircraft was a Dornier Wal flying boat which operated the first service on 3 February 1928. First international service was in 1942 to Montevideo, and Lockheed 10As were introduced in 1943. After World War II, Varig acquired 35 C-47/DC-3s and steadily built up its network. In 1981, Varig acquired Airbus A300s and Boeing 747-200s. Boeing 767s, 747-400s and MD-11s were all added later, with the current color scheme being adopted in 1998. Varig has been a member of the Star Alliance since October 1997. We honor this premier Brasilian carrier by making available for public release, a replica of their MD-11......by overwhelming popular request of collectors.
