During 1989, Swissair was evaluating narrow body fleet upgrades for more fuel efficient aircraft. Airbus at the time was operating a combination of Fokker F-100s and McDonnell Douglas DC-9 series of aircraft. In 1990, Swissair placed an order with Airbus for S 26 Airbus A320/A321s with options on a further 26. This would be the first narrowbody Airbus to join the Swissair fleet, and would be the second type of Airbus aircraft to be operated (A310 being the other Airbus). During that time frame, Swissair was operating aircraft from all three manufacturers including Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.
2001 has Swissair operating an Airbus only fleet featuring 41 Airbus narrow body aircraft (in addition to A330s and soon to join A340s). This includes 20 Airbus A320s in service, 9 A319s, and 12 A321s.
Today Dragon Models is proud to release the Swissair A320 in the newest color scheme flown by Swissair.
