PHILIPPINE AIRLINES MD-11
Philippine Airlines is the oldest carrier in Asia, operating equipment from Airbus Industrie, Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. The carrier was badly hit by the Asian economic crisis that left it practically crippled. Government intervention became necessary and fleet downsizing was inevitable in the restructuring process. Unprofitable routes were abandoned and surplus aircraft returned to the lessors. This MD-11, bearing registration N277WA (leased from World Airways) was a casualty of the downsizing. PAL no longer operate any MD-11s, and their streamlined fleet consist of B737s, A320s, A330s, A340s and B747-400s. Except for a B737, all are leased.
