Perhaps the first inkling that some customers were less than happy with the initial performance of the MD-11 came when Korean Air decided to convert all five of its MD-11 fleet to freighters. The first airframe conversion was completed in South Korea in 1995. The remaining four (originally scheduled for conversion in South Korea) were subsequently converted in the US. Maybe the manufacturer should thank Korean Air for showing the world what an excellent freighter the MD-11 is, as virtually all subsequent orders for the aircraft had been for cargo variants. We take pride in presenting the Korean Air MD-11 to 1:400 scale collectors with the World Cup 2002 insignia, commemorating this world event that will be jointly hosted by Korea and Japan.
