In addition, Japan Airlines was the launch customer for the stretched Boeing 767-300.
Japan Airlines placed the new widebody on short-haul international routes to Korea and China shortly after.
On September 13th, 1983, Japan Airlines placed their first order for the Boeing 767-200. The new widebody jets would begin replacing the DC-8s that Japan had been using. Delivery of Japan Airlines first 767-200 was on July 22nd, 1985 and began scheduled service with Tokyo-Fukuoka and Sapporo-Fukuoka routes on November 1, 1985.

Production of Boeing's first long range twin-jet widebody began on July 14th of 1978. Civil Transport Development Corp. of Japan became a risk-sharing major participant in the Boeing 767 development and production program. CTDC now Commercial Airplane Co. (CAC), is a consortium of Japanese aircraft manufacturers and component supplier and was one of the first risk-sharing agreements between Boeing and the Japanese.
