The
first-pattern tropical uniform was worn by both the U.S. Army and USMC in Vietnam,
but was worn longer by USMC personnel due to supply difficulties. The jacket
featured exposed buttons on the pockets and shoulder loops, with tie-down straps
on the cargo pockets of the trousers. Of all the tropical uniforms worn by U.S.
personnel in Vietnam, this pattern probably most closely resembles the M1942
Parachutist Uniform -- the inspiration for all U.S. jungle fatigues.
