"...Dragon's 88mm Flak 36 is an impressive kit where the well planned use of mixed media and slide mould technology allows modellers to build an accurate and very detailed model. The inclusion of a well posed gun crew, a good stock of ammunition with storage boxes and the ability to adjust the jacks and other parts offers considerable potential for dioramas and ensures that the Flak 36 represents excellent value for money. This combination of finesse, and accessories resulted in this being the first kit review where I have awarded the full 5 stars. Highly recommended." <

"... Well...you'd almost be advised to, for to do the superb engineering of DML's new generation 88 any justice, it deserves the very best finishing effort a modeller can achieve." <

"... Happily, DML has now released a brand-new ground up kit of the famous 88 and it is stunning to say the least. DML has lately pioneered the way in providing a variety of options, and this kit is no exception. It comes with a total of four gun barrels ¡V two aluminum, two styrene ¡V to provide the options for either a Flak 18 or Flak 36 barreled weapon. The kit can be built with or without gunshield, and that is only the start.
The box is "packed with vitamins" as they used to say ¡V 20 sprues, a cardboard sheet with the decals, etched brass and highlighted parts, and a small case with the turned aluminum and brass parts. These include either aluminum or styrene balance cylinders, both for travel (zero elevation) or operational (high angle elevation) settings. The loading tray, seats, stakes, jack pads, and other elements all provide a choice between march order and combat order display. This is a much more sophisticated kit than the Tamiya one, and the parts are far more accurate in scale and representation of the original parts (I just shot photos last year of the Ordnance Museum's Flak 18 and Flak 36 for a fellow modeler, so am familiar with all of the "bits" on them.)
The kit does not come with vinyl tires but "hard" styrene ones; as they have a "street" pattern to match the originals, each tire consists of two sidewalls and three inner sections with offsets to create tread depth..."

"...The Flak 36 is manufactured and marketed in exactly the same vein as the Tiger I early, and it¡¦s sure to have modelers¡¦ hearts throbbing and pulses racing. This is a superb kit and any modeler in their right mind will appreciate the astounding detail, the accuracy, the sheer number of parts, and the value for money. There shouldn¡¦t be anything here for modelers to quibble about . . . " <

"Arguably the most feared weapon of the Second World War, the German 88mm gun has been faithfully replicated in 1/35 scale by Dragon Models Ltd. As they have done with their Tiger I Initial kit, DML have spared no amount of effort with their latest release of the 88mm Flak 36.
Kit #6260 comes with parts to build the Flak 36 in either towed or firing mode, along with a 6-man crew. Since the figures provided are wearing the insulated winter uniforms, they can be configured as Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, or SS troops.
As with all of DML¡¦s latest releases, the package bulges with optional parts and choices of multi-media additions that allow both the seasoned & novice modellers to enjoy piecing together an accurate replica of this famous gun. Main gun barrels come in styrene and turned aluminum, and feature fine rifling. Ammunition has been rendered in both plastic & brass, and has boxes and wicker containers having surface texture that is truly amazing.
Detail has not been sacrificed to allow positioning options of the gun, and the final configuration of the model is permanent (as it should be with a kit of this caliber!). The main cruciform can be mounted on two highly detailed trucks with the two outrigger legs folded up, or set on the ground ¡V staked, or on mounting pads. Equilibrators can be shown in the elevated or lowered configuration, and come in both plastic or turned aluminum options.
Innovative methods have been used to allow the tires to have a correct tread pattern. An intricate loading tray can be modelled, and optional parts are included to show the tray mount folded if not in use. Finely engraved graduations have been molded into the metered parts around the breach, and small conduits have been reproduced to connect the various electrical components of the gun. Because of the multi-part build of the breach, effort is needed to fill some joints in this area.
Advanced molding technology has allowed sharp detailing on all sides of the major components such as the main gun shield and the sides of the gun mount. Most of the parts are keyed so that correct location & orientation are assured. Fine weld detail is featured throughout the model, and is indicative of the thorough research that went into producing the kit. The fit of the model overall is excellent and allows, for example, the elevation gear to roll smoothly on the rack as the main gun is raised & lowered.
Overall, Dragon¡¦s new 88mm Flak 36 is a great new addition to the increasing line of well researched and finely detailed models. With Ron Volstad¡¦s magnificent artwork providing the ¡§icing on the cake¡¨, DML have produced yet another winning piece in their line of 1/35 scale kits."
