Finnair was established on 9 Oct 23 as Aero OY, with the German company Junkers holding 50% of the stocks. The first flight was from Helsinki to Tallinn on 20 Mar 24 with a Junkers F-13. Until 1936, when airports were built in Finland, seaplanes were used. Flights to Berlin and Paris were added, but operations had to cease on 21 Sep 44 until spring 1945 when eight C-47s were acquired from the USAF. The first services were to Stockholm and Copenhagen. Convair 340s and 440s replacedthe C-47s and a new service to Moscow in 1956 was followed by Frankfurt, Cologne, Basle and Geneva a year later. The Caravelle was introduced at Finnair in 1960, marking the beginning of the changeover to jets. Kar-Air, a private Finnish airline founded in 1957, was taken over in 1962. Douglas DC-8s were ordered for new long range services to the USA, with the first delivered in 1969. These were also used on charters to the Mediterranean. In 1968 the name Finnair was adopted as the sole valid designation for the airline. DC-10-30s were delivered from 4 Feb 75 and used primarily for flights to the American west coast, Tokyo and New York. In subsequent years, DC-9s, Boeing 757s and the Airbus A320 family of aircraft were introduced. The MD-11s entered the Finnair fleet in 1990. Since Sep 99, Finnair has been a partner in the Oneworld alliance. We take pride in releasing the Finnair DC-10-30 in the celebrative Moomins livery. We regret, however, that this release is restricted only to the Hong Kong and Macau market.
