For winter warfare and snow-covered terrains, a washable white paint was used beginning in 1942-43 to provide an overcoat to the dark grey or various camouflage patterns of Tiger Tanks. The standard Wehrmacht three-digit numbering system was used on most Tigers -- the the first digit denoting the company, the second denoted the platoon, and the third digit denoted the individual vehicle within the platoon -- however, individual units also often superceded the regulations with numbering systems of their own.
